Important Notice
Read the following before attempting any upgrade:
  • Perform the upgrade at your OWN RISK as any upgrade will void your warranty and forfeit any support from the manyfacturer(s).
  • We DO NOT TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY when something goes wrong during the upgrade.
  • The upgrade is intended for EXPERT USERS only who know what they are doing.
  • Only perform the upgrade when it is absolutely necessary, for example to use the CD-Writer with incompatible burning software programs.
  • Before performing the upgrade turn off and exit ALL CD-related programs which may interfere with the upgrade (especially packet-writing software like Adaptec DirectCD or Ahead InCD).
  • Always power off the computer to perform a COLD BOOT. Then turn on the computer and test if the upgrade was successful.
Upgrade an Iomega 12x10x32 to Plextor 12x10x32A
Iomega v1.07 Modified Firmware [319 KB] 
Iomega v1.04 Modified Firmware [318 KB]
The Iomega ZipCD 12x10x32 uses the Plextor 12x10x32 drive on the inside. As Iomega is behind on the firmware updates it is possible to upgrade it to a real Plextor 12x10x32 using the latest Plextor firmware update!
Iomega ZipCD Upgrade
  • Extract the Iomega v1.07 Modified Firmware to a temporary path.
  • Make sure that the DMA option is disable first for the Iomega ZipCD.
  • Execute PLFIRM32.EXE to apply the Plextor v1.07 upgrade.
  • Power off the computer to perform a COLD BOOT.
  • Ready!

TDK VeloCD 12x10x32 to Plextor Name Converter [57 KB]
The Iomega ZipCD 12x10x32 uses the Plextor 12x10x32A drive on the inside. The Name Converter is able to change all connected Plextor drives to a real Plextor 12x10x32A!

The upgrade software only seems to work on a Windows 98 system with SCSI ASPI installed! Check the CD/DVD Utility pages how to install a working SCSI ASPI layer software!
Upgrade Instructions
  • Physically disconnect any CD-ROM or CD-Reader from you IDE & SCSI ports except for the Iomega ZipCD 12x10x32.
  • Execute PXFIX.EXE to convert the the Iomega ZipCD 12x10x32 to a Plextor 12x10x32A.
  • Power off the computer to perform a COLD BOOT.
  • Ready!
Downgrade Instructions
  • Physically disconnect any CD-ROM or CD-Reader from you IDE & SCSI ports except for the modified Iomega ZipCD 12x10x32.
  • Execute PX2IO.EXE to convert the modified Iomega ZipCD 12x10x32 to the original Iomega ZipCD 12x10x32.
  • Power off the computer to perform a COLD BOOT.
  • Ready!
