Important Notice
Read the following before attempting any upgrade:
  • Perform the upgrade at your OWN RISK as any upgrade will void your warranty and forfeit any support from the manyfacturer(s).
  • We DO NOT TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY when something goes wrong during the upgrade.
  • The upgrade is intended for EXPERT USERS only who know what they are doing.
  • Only perform the upgrade when it is absolutely necessary, for example to use the CD-Writer with incompatible burning software programs.
  • Before performing the upgrade turn off and exit ALL CD-related programs which may interfere with the upgrade (especially packet-writing software like Adaptec DirectCD or Ahead InCD).
  • Always power off the computer to perform a COLD BOOT. Then turn on the computer and test if the upgrade was successful.
Upgrade a Traxdata CDRW4260 Pro to a Yamaha CRW4260
How to transform a Traxdata CDRW 4260 Pro into a Yamaha CRW4260:
  • Download this Yamaha firmware update (1.0q): YAM10Q.ZIP
  • Create a bootable diskette and extract the archive to this diskette.
(creating a bootable disk:  format A: /S/U). This diskette must also include ASPI DOS drivers in the CONFIG.SYS (a default Adaptec PCI SCSI driver has been included in the archive).
  • Leave the writer-tray open and turn off the computer.
  • Open the bottom-cover of the writer (6 little screws).
  • Locate the jumper-header called: CORE BOOT (near the scsi connector), the CORE BOOT permit the reverse operation to Flash the bios.
  • Short it with a jumper.
  • Close the bottom-cover.
  • Reconnect the CD-Writer to the SCSI Controller.
  • Put the diskette in drive A: and turn on the computer, the following message will show up in the SCSI startup: YAMAHA CDR400 CORE 1.0
  • When ready enter: Scinst SC981111.BIN [SCSI ID] [SCSI CARD]
    [SCSI ID]
= SCSI ID of the connected Traxdata writer.
[SCSI CARD] = SCSI Card Number (default = 0).
  • When the flash update process is done, Leave the writer-tray open and turn off the computer.
  • Open the bottom-cover of the writer (6 little screws)
  • Remove the jumper again from: CORE BOOT
  • Close the bottom-cover.
  • Turn on the computer and you will see: YAMAHA CRW 4260

You may ask what will be the gain by doing this! The main gain is that firmware upgraded are first released for the Yamaha drive and then you'll have to wait for TraxData to modify this firmware for their drive, IF to ever do this!
